Inspiration From Bali

We have made it a goal to travel and visit Tim’s family at least once every year. It’s difficult living so far from family so we try to soak up as much quality time with them durning the few weeks a year we do get to see them. The silver lining is that they live in a very cool part of the world! It seems strange that I, an Alaskan raised girl, can honestly say that Indonesia has become like a second home, haha! But every year that we go, I feel more and more at home there. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still a cold weather girl!! But I have learned to love the food, culture, language and customs of Indonesia too!

When we travel to Bali, I can’t help but feel so much creative inspiration. And since we usually go at the beginning of the year, it’s the perfect opportunity to start sketching out new designs and collections! The tropical forests and exotic plants and flowers always find their way into my designs and fuel my love of all things natural.

I loved holding this cutie at the reptile park!

This year we also got to visit the Bali Reptile Park and I got to hold so many amazing creatures. It was a ton of fun, and a little terrifying. You will definitely see some snake shaped movement in some of my new jewelry designs this year!

I wish I could transport you to Bali with me, for just a day, and show you around! I would take you to this one street outside of Ubud where you pass woodworkers, basket weavers, stone carvers, pottery shops, plant nurseries, bead shops, textile shops and clothing boutiques. We would walk slowly and talk to the shop keepers and makers working on their craft. Then I would take you to my favorite beach club where we would gather sea glass and shells and listen to the waves lapping the sandy shores. We would sip drinks out of coconuts and watch the sunset… But, since I can’t actually take you with me… I will show you the beauty and creativity of Bali within my jewelry designs. I know, I know, it’s not the same… but I hope that in a way they transport you there and bring you joy!
